About Proof : Wineries

1.PROCESS    2.CULTURE    3.WINERIES

We have a unique relationship with some up-and-coming artisan producers that make sexy-as-hell wine.  Sometime ago we realized that we needed a better way of describing how much these clients/friends/mentors meant to us, so we did what any room full of designers and writers on a pizza bender would do: we decided to make our own title for them. We decided to call them “Collective Wineries.”

We work with them because we think their wine is so superb it deserves riches, fame, and a whole bunch of high-fives.  Right now, we just have the high-fives, but we're working on the other two.

Just like them, we're toiling extra long and hard in order to do what we love, and to do it well.  They've caught on to this, so they share their industry know-how, their support, and their couches with us. Sometimes, they even bring us wine.  Or snacks.  They trust us with their reputation, their projects, their palates, and sometimes even their credit card numbers.  In return, we hold ourselves accountable for their destiny.  They are a tight-knit group of friends, owner/operators, adventurers, and wine crusaders.       They are:

Field Recordings

fieldrecordingswine.com

Field Recordings is winemaker Andrew Jones’ personal catalog of the people and places he values most.  He spends his days as a vine nursery employee planning and planting vineyards for farmers all over California, and is sometimes offered small lots of their best fruit for his side project.  Andrew has stood in just about every vineyard on the Central Coast, so he has an eye for sites that are unknown or under-appreciated but hold enormous potential.  As friendships are made and opportunities embraced, Andrew produces small quantities of soulful wines from these unusual, off-the-map vineyards.

Folkway

Folkway is the beloved project of Lino and Anthony Bozzano. Sons of walnut farmers, the brothers’ deep understanding of agriculture allows them to see the potential in obscure or under-represented vineyards.  With veteran wine industry experience that belies their years, and sincere enthusiasm for Bordeaux varietals, they discard the prevailing wisdom of the day in favor of observation and experience.

Sans Liege

Sans Liege is the brainchild of Curt Schalchlin, the owner and vintner of the heralded winery. After several years learning from and working for some of the Central Coast’s top producers, Curt decided to go his own way. His wines are critically acclaimed, affordable (at the time of this writing), and he is now one of the most sought-after producers of Rhone-style wines on the Central Coast. Sans Liege is an expression of his humble wisdom and hard-earned independence.
